When buying a home, applying for the loan is troublesome for most people, but it doesn't have to be. Having connections to many lending companies in the Pasadena area has helped me recognize a few things that make the loan application process effortless.

1 – Put together a list of questions regarding your loan program

If you do not fully understand the ins and outs of all the various financing options, make sure to bring a list of questions. I or one of my trusted lenders will assist you in understanding the advantages and disadvantages of each one, because it's hard to know the differences between both fixed and adjustable rate mortgages.

2 – Decide when you want to lock

When you lock in the interest rate, the lender is guaranteed to keep to the interest rates for the loan – most often at the time the loan application is received. By floating the rate, you can lock the rate anytime between the day of your loan application and closing. Buyers who choose to float believe the interest rates will fall in the near future. 3 – Determine if you want to pay additional points to reduce your interest rate

Generally you can elect to pay additional points to lower the rate of your loan. Every point is 1 percent of the mortgage loan and is payable in cash at closing. Click here to use our points calculator. This tool will assist you in determining if purchasing points is the best option for you.

4 – Gather your paperwork

Acquiring a loan requires lots of paperwork, so you should take some time to get your documentation together. Click here to get a feel for common information that goes on a loan application.
